Out Of Town Girl Swag

Chapter One:                                   

Carter POV

I walked down the stairs carefully and quietly, being absolutely sure not to wake my step dad on the couch.  Ugh. He passed out again.

I practically ran to my car once I got outside in the driveway. I got in my car, put my backpack on the passenger side, started the car and quickly backed out. When I got to the stop sign down the road I put in my Rihanna album and jammed out.

Music was my only way to escape from all my stress and problems. Even though I’m only 16, I still have lots of problems.  But it wasn’t always like that.

When I was 10 my mom got remarried to my now step-dad Steve Hyland. At first Steve was a dream step dad. He always bought me and mama stuff and spoiled us rotten. But those things changed instantly. When I was 12 my mom and I was on our way to get some ice cream after my soccer game and we were hit by a drunk driver. I luckily survived. But my mom. Not so much. She died instantly. And to this day I blame myself. And not just me. But Steve blames me also. When he found out that I was constantly begging my mom to take me to get ice cream after the game he called me “no good” and a “spoiled bitch”. That hurt, really hurt. And when I was brought home from the hospital he hit me. I thought it was a one time thing. But it wasn’t. Day after day he hit me and for no reasons at all. If I didn’t finish my homework *hit*. Didn’t do my chores *hit*. Looked at him “wrong” *hit*. I always had bruises but I just brushed them off and told people I was really clumsy. Everyone believed me BUT my bestfriend Mandy. She knew something was up. I finally told her what happened when I was 14, and I had come to school with more bruises. “What happened to you?” Mandy questioned. “N-nothing” I stammered. That’s when Mandy saw the bruise on my neck and I told her that it wasn’t a bruise, but a hickey my step dad had given me.

I came to a halt in front of Belmont High School. I really didn’t want to get out of my car. I have rather stayed in my car. I’m glad it was Friday. I grabbed my backpack off the passenger side, but I didn’t realize I grabbed it upside down, and most of my things fell out. Just perfect. I bent down to pick everything up, and then I heard laughter. When I looked up it was Jake and his crew. I ducked down quick.

I have known Jake since we were little. Of course I did. He was Mandy’s twin brother! At first Jake and I didn’t have any problems. But once we got to middle school, things changed. He started calling me a whore and other bad names along with the other kids. I didn’t understand. So 8^th grade year, I was so used to it, I avoided him. The only time I couldn’t is when I was hanging out with Mandy at their house. Lemme tell you a little more about “Jake Mitchell aka Mr. Popular.” Jake is a junior like me. He’s captain of the football team, he lead our team to the championship and won. All the girls want him. Like seriously. He is a man-whore. He uses girls to get what he wants, and then dumps them, but the girl’s stupid asses keep following him around like a lost puppy. He thinks he all that. Even the teachers love him. Well he’s a charmer to adults, but not to people. Well actually just me. His two best friends Tyler Overstreet and Calvin Brown; all 3 of them have been best friends since like kindergarten. They are also considered “popular” and use girls too. They are known as “JTC”, which obviously stands for their names “Jake, Tyler, and Calvin.”

*knock, knock*

I looked up from where I was scrunching down, and looked at my window seeing my best friend Mandy.

“What are you doing?” Mandy mouthed. I finished packing my things in my bag, got out my car, and greeted my best friend. “Hi Mandy. Sorry, I picked up my bag upside down and some of my things fell out.” “Oh.” Was all she could say. “Come on Mands,” I started, “Let’s get inside, I need to check my outfit and make up!” I grabbed her arm and started pulling her towards the bathroom. “Slow down Carter!” Mandy laughed. Once in the bathroom I checked my make-up, hair and outfit and thought I did decent today. Usually I just wear sweats and an oversized shirt, but today I thought to try and look nice. Mandy and I were laughing about some things Jake got in trouble for yesterday. This is why I’m glad Mandy is my best friend. She can always make me laugh. I was laughing, when all of a sudden Mandy stopped.

“What you laughing at slut?”

I turned around seeing the meanest, biggest, slut ever. Brandi James. And she was with her friends Brooke and Bambi. Also known as the “Triple B’s”.

“Wow, you have the nerve calling us a slut. Have you seen how wide your vagina is?” Mandy laughed. Of course I laughed too.

See Brandi and her friends are known as the sluts of the school. They nearly had sex with every guy: Including Jake and his crew. Brandi and Jake have a long history together. I mean they have had an off and on relationship since freshman year. Mandy has told me many times when Brandi comes over to see Jake, all she can hear is his bed banging against the wall. Like damn.

“Well you two need to leave. Me and my girls have some business to take care of.” Brandi spoke.

“That includes smoking weed and blowing guys? Okay, come on Cart, we don’t wanna turn into the biggest whores in the school.” Mandy snorted. With that Mandy pulled me by my arm and we walked out the bathroom. Mandy always and I mean always gets the last word. Mandy and I walked towards my locker.

“So you doing anything this weekend Carter?” Mandy asked.

“No. I’m never doing anything.” I replied. Mandy knows I stay at home. I have to.

“Wanna come over?”

“What’s the catch?” I asked, knowing there was more than just “coming over.”

“I’ll tell you when you come over. Please Cart!” Mandy gave me those puppy dog eyes and she knows I can’t resist those!

“Ugh FINE!” I said. Mandy jumped up and down like a little girl clapping her hands. I just had to figure out how to tell Steve I was going “out.”

“But Mands, I can’t make promises. You know how Steve is.” I said.

“Well Cart, just say you’re coming over for the weekend to finish a project. And I’ll be there when you tell him so he won’t try anything.” Mandy smiled.

“Okay.” I smiled back.

Girls started whispering. Well, time to go; usually when girls started whispering mean that Jake and his crew are in the building. Like seriously, girls at this school think he’s famous or something. I quickly grabbed Mandy’s hand walking her to Algebra 2 with me. I do not want a run in with Jake again. Monday while leaving my locker, I accidently bumped into him, well I know HE bumped into me on purpose, knocking my books out of my hand and while I bent down to pick them up he yelled, “HEY LOOK THE SLUT IS ON HER KNEES GETTING READY FOR WORK.!” Everyone in the hall started laughing, and I ran down the hall, locking myself in a janitor’s closet for the rest of the day.

No matter what I can’t get away from Jake and his crew, and Brandi and her crew. I have 3 classes with Jake and 2 with Brandi. Plus I have some of their “crew” in my classes too. Just my luck.

Mandy and I took our regular seats in Math near the windows on the far side of the class room. Thank god, Jake, Tyler and Calvin sit on the other side of the room. As the bell rung Jake, Tyler and Calvin came in taking their usual seats. I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. Just knowing Jake was in the class made me uncomfortable.

“Good morning class.”  Mrs. Moore spoke.

“Morning,” some of the class spoke.

“Today turn your textbooks to chapter 12 and do problems 1 through 30. All your work is to be turned in at the end of the class, and yes you may work with someone.”

“OH THANK GOD!” Mandy said turning around facing me. “I dunno if I could get through problem one without you.”

“Ha-ha.” I laughed.

Mandy and I soon began working. After about 25 minutes we were already done. The work was actually really easy. Mandy was asleep, so I decided just to doodle in my notebook when a paper ball was thrown at me. I took it and opened it and saw the word “carter”. I turned around seeing Jake smirking. Um okay. I looked back down at my desk and went back to doodling. Another one was thrown.

“is.”

Okay, so now they are playing a word game. Another one was thrown.

“a”

“whore”

“and”

“loner”

That hurt. I looked over to Jake and his friends and they were all laughing. I snapped my head away.

“Mr. Mitchell, what’s so funny?” Mrs. Moore looked up.

“Oh nothing your honor.” Jake laughed. I looked over to Jake again and he just smirked. I felt a little confident today and I gave him the ‘finger’ and quickly turned away. I could not believe I just gave Mr. Popular the middle finger.

When the bell rung I quickly got up and dragged Mandy by the arm to my locker.

“Why are you being so fast today Cart?” Mandy chuckled.

“In algebra, Jake threw paper balls at me that said ‘carter is a whore and loner’ and I looked at him and gave him the finger” I said quickly.

“OMG Carter, I’m glad you finally stood up for yourself! I bet Jake was surprised!” Mandy said. I gave her a small smile, and happened to look over her shoulder seeing Jake and his crew coming towards me.

“Oh no.” I said quietly. Too bad Mandy heard me.

“What’s wrong Cart?” Mandy asked. She turned around and saw what I was looking at. “He’s not gonna do anything to you Cart. I can promise you that.” Mandy snapped.

Jake, Tyler and Calvin came towards me. I had Mandy to support me. Right? I calmed my nerves a little until I saw Tyler and Calvin grab Mandy by the arms and Jake came over to me.

“Let go of me!” Mandy said.

“I don’t think so. I have to talk to Carter.” Jake smirked. He came near me so I was leaning against the lockers. He had each of his arms on either side of me, trapping me against my locker. I was scared. I was terrified. “So you think your little stick ass can give me the finger huh?” He smirked. I just gulped. He leaned in my ear and took his hand and rested it on my upper thigh. Why did I pick this day to wear shorts? And what the hell was he doing? “Next time just tell me when and where babe.” He whispered in my ear. He lifted up looking me in my eyes and smirked. He stepped away from me and signaled Tyler and Calvin to let go of Mandy. After that they left.

What just happened? I thought Jake would have slapped me or embarrassed me.

“What was that about?” Mandy asked. I didn’t answer her because I was speechless. What did just happen?

                                                Jake’s POV

Who did Carter think she was? Little miss prissy. I had to put her in her place. I saw her at her locker with my sister and decided to pay her a little visit. I told Tyler and Calvin to grab Mandy while I had a little “talk” to Carter. I walked over to Carter seeing she was already nervous. I put both my arms on each side of her trapping her against her locker. My sister told my friends to let go of her, I told her I needed to have a little talk with Carter.

“So you think your little stick ass can give me the finger huh?” I smirked at Carter. I knew she was scared. I heard her gulp a little bit. I leaned in her ear placing a hand on her thigh. “Next time just tell me when and where babe” I teased. I lifted up and looked her right in the eyes I saw the nervousness and confusion in her eyes which I enjoyed. I smirked at her, and then left with Tyler and Calvin behind.

“Yo dude what was that all about?” Tyler spoke.  

“Nothing man. She gave me the finger in algebra so I decided to put her in her place.” I said. The boys nodded her head.

“She’s pretty hot.” Calvin spoke up.

“Yeah, but a loser. Nobody wants her.” Tyler joked.

“Tyler has a point Calvin. She’s hot, but a loser. She only has one friend, which happens to be my sister. If she wasn’t such a lame I wouldn’t think twice about getting her in bed.” I smirked.

“Don’t we have her next class?” Tyler asked.

“Yep we sure do. And I think I’m gonna sit by her today. You know, just to mess with her.” I joked.

“What about Brandi?”

“Forget Brandi. We’re off now so I can mess with any girl I want.” I said.

“Try telling Brandi that.” Calvin pointed. I turned around seeing Brandi walk up with her two friends Brooke and Bambi.         

Carter Hyland is Unwanted.

Friends? Only one. Mandy Mitchell which so happens to be the twin sister of Jake Mitchell aka Mr. Popular.

Her family? Her mom died, and now she lives with her abusive step dad Steve. She knows nothing else about her other family members.
